Law Lecturers’ Workshops

The Law Lecturers’ Workshops are part of our Centre’s teaching outreach mission, giving interested lecturers the tools to teach an Animal Rights Law course at their own university.

In the Workshops, we are sharing all the course materials from the Cambridge Animal Rights Law course, discuss strategies of how to put together an Animal Rights Law syllabus, look at what readings to include, as well as at how to get students involved beyond class participation.

The Workshops support a key goal of our Centre, which is to have courses in Animal Rights Law offered in 100 universities worldwide within 5 years.

Last year, we had an online Law Lecturers’ Workshop in May, a Workshop in Cambridge from 8-12 September, and a Workshop held in Chile from 1-5 December. This year, we will be holding a Law Lecturers Workshop in Oklahoma, USA, from 13-17 July. Find out more about this Workshop below.

Registration is now open for the 2026 Law Lecturers’ Workshop in Croatia

14 to 18 September 2026

Our next Law Lecturers’ Workshop will be held in Osijek, Croatia, from Monday 14 to Friday 18 September 2026. It will be hosted by Prof Tomislav Nedić and Prof Boris Bakota at the Faculty of Law, Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek .

The Workshop will be taught in English by Dr Sean Butler (Fellow, St Edmund’s College, Cambridge) and Dr Raffael Fasel (Assistant Professor in Public Law, University of Cambridge; Fellow, Jesus College, Cambridge). Drs Butler and Fasel teach Animal Law at the University of Cambridge and are the authors of the first academic textbook on the subject (Animal Rights Law, Hart Publishing 2023).

In the Workshop, Drs Butler and Fasel will share all the course materials from their Cambridge University course, discuss strategies for putting together an Animal Rights Law syllabus, and consider which readings to include and how best to involve students. Participants will also develop and present their own Animal Rights Law course outline during the Workshop. Participants of the Workshop will become members of the Animal Rights Law Teaching Network, a global community of Animal Rights Law teachers.

The fee for participation from Monday to Friday is €200. This fee covers the full programme, lunches during the workshop days, and two dinners. It does not cover travel or accommodation.

The Workshop is open to law professors and lecturers, as well as PhD candidates and researchers, who expect to be in a position to offer a course in Animal Rights Law to students in the near future.
